The Question to Right Thought
To be or not to be; the question is faced by almost every sensible human being while taking most of the decisions. Especially with the decisions which are difficult to take. What we have thought is correct or not? What we are deciding is right or not? How to answer it?
We all think. We all think that we are correct. And if we really and rightfully think that we are correct, than no doubt we are correct.
However, are we really and rightfully sure that what we think is correct? Arjuna, when he, just before the start of Mahabharata from his point of view correctly, thought that he would be killing his friends and relatives, he was actually not correct. Had he fought with that thought in his mind, he would have lived rest of his life as a criminal than a successful warrior. Had he not told Krishna his single directional, self justified thought he would have either left the battle or would have fought with guilt and self-shame. Krishna questioned him and cleared his thoughts and corrected him. Than he fought like a warrior, killing his enemies without any prejudice what so ever.
So what we think is correct. But, what if we are not? Any of our decision resultant of our thought is a single-minded, single directional thought process if it does not go through the question of its correctness. The question can be a self realization, or it can come from any other individual, a friend, an enemy, even an unknown person, but we are lucky if it comes from a person who shares our thoughts, like Krishna did with Arjuna. The question at times may not be of our liking, because we mortals like to hear in favour of what we like to do and that we are correct. But whether of our liking or not, the question must be answered. Only if after answering the question with all sincerity, we feel that what we had originally thought was correct, without any iota of doubt, than we are correct. Our thought was correct and our related decision perfect. The question of Krishna corrected Arjuna’s thought. Had he not heard Krishna, he would have died as a self made coward.
A thief knows he is a thief when he answers himself or in the court of law. Had he stopped before stealing, when the question came to him, he would have avoided being one. The question did come, the answer too came, and it was negative. But his greed couldn’t stop him from going ahead and steal and so he was a thief. A spy stealing something for his country’s sake is clear in his mind. He too answers. He is not doing it for any personal requirement or greed, but for the duty towards his nation, his society and to his own people. His thoughts and decisions stay correct.
When question came to Arjuna, he listened to Krishna, realised that he was wrong; he changed his thinking and fought to glory. He got corrected. When he thought that he is fighting against his friends and relatives, he would have gone wrong, had he fought with that thought and conscience. However, when his conscience became clear and he had not doubt that he is fighting for a cause and persons on the other side are his enemies, he was correct without any guilt or sin to commit.
So we are correct in what we think or do; theories and thinking of the world apart; only when deep from inside we can feel that we are correct. We challenge our thought by self realization or to the realization evoked by someone else. If we can answer this challenge, than nothing can prove us wrong, else we are in a fool’s world, imagining that we are thinking and doing correct thing, while we are committing sins or living in a fool’s paradise.
So one must think twice and answer to oneself before every major or crucial decision in life. Never act in hurry or get swept away in sentiments or desperation. Stop if doubt or guilt persists. Or find a Krishna to answer you. Every one has one.
Than what we finally think and act, will always be correct.
